Post-Shelter Support
Families who exit Stepping Stones Shelter often remain vulnerable and in need of our Post-Shelter Support Program.
However, Stepping Stones recognizes that sometimes former residents move out into the community with little support and remain at risk. Our post-shelter program serves as a resource for families to ensure that they remain stably housed and avoid a recurrence of homelessness. Post-shelter families are eligible to receive the following:
In FY23 approximately 60 post-shelter families participated in these initiatives.
- Backpacks with grade-appropriate school supplies from the Shelter's School Supply Drive Initiative every August.
- Thanksgiving baskets with all the items needed for a full Thanksgiving meal, including a grocery gift card to purchase a turkey.
- Holiday gifts and warm weather gear during our December giving event.
- Available household items as needed, including diapers, non-perishable food, clothing, detergent, cleaners, and household goods.
Our case management staff also provides advocacy, referral, and intervention to post-shelter families needing greater assistance to ensure a return to homelessness is avoided.
